How To Use The Internet In Japan

There are four ways to use the Internet in Japan.

1. The Internet can be used at “Internet cafes” (fees charged)
Computers in “Internet cafes” are connected to the Internet. Surfing on the Web, sending and receiving E-mail is possible while enjoying coffee, etc. The method of charging for Internet service varies, but the most common is a charge for the length of time spent on the Internet separate from drink and food charges. Information about Internet cafes is available on the following Website: http://www.itagaki.net/pc/ic/

2. The Internet can be used at certain public facilities (free)
There are some public facilities offering free use of computers connected to the Internet. The International Association is one such facility.

3. Making a contract with an Internet provider (ISP)
If a contact is made with an Internet provider (ISP), one can connect their personal computer to the Internet. Some providers offer free services.

4. Using a foreign-based Internet provider
Some foreign-based Internet providers offer services with access points in Japan. However, a special fee may be charged in addition to the basic fee.
