Educational Training Subsidy System


Have you ever considered gaining specialized knowledge, developing your ability or learning new skills to improve your chances of seeking reemployment? If so, the "Educational Training Subsidy System" which is part of the unemployment insurance benefits is available. This system aims to support workers, promote employment stability and facilitate reemployment. The system which started on December 1, 1999 had the number of benefits changed in January 2001.

Who qualifies?

Those who satisfy certain conditions who are employed and are covered by unemployment insurance and those who were insured in the past but are now unemployed.

Amount of benefits

If educational training courses designated by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labor are taken, the Public Employment Security Agency’s HELLO WORK will pay 80% of the educational expenses (course entrance fee, tuition, etc.) paid to the educational training institute.

Note:
1. The maximum amount of benefits is 300,000 yen even if 80% of expenses exceeds 300,000 yen. Amounts less than 8,000 yen are not covered by the system.
2. An application for this payment should be made within one month starting from the day following the conclusion of the course. Later applications will be void.
