A new registration law that started on 1st of April, 2000 contains:
1. No finger printing.
The requirement of fingerprinting is waived for non-permanent residents, who shall register their signature and family records in the same way that permanent residents do.
2. Who can file a change of address etc?
On your behalf, any member of your family having the same residence is eligible to report any change in the particulars such as residence in Japan, status, duration of status, etc.
3. For permanent residents and special permanent residents.
The requirement to register occupation and address of employer is waived. In addition, validity of registration certificates shall are extended up to 7 years.
You can apply for the revised registration card, which has no fingerprint on it. Your new card is valid for 5 years starting from the day of issue.
