Call and leave a message:
This is a system that allows people in stricken areas to communicate with others within and outside the affected areas by way of a voice message board.
Friends and relatives can listen to these recorded messages through Call a message centers that are set up throughout Japan.
To record messages victims can use their domestic phone numbers. Simply call 117 and follow the instructions.
You do not need to sign up to use this system.
Telephones that can be used are:
Ordinary phones, mobile phones, PHS, public phones, ISSN, members net (only when you use offnet calls) can be used.
This service will commence after an earthquake or volcanic eruption, when ordinary phone lines to the stricken area are jammed with calls from people inquiring about the well-being of friends and relatives.
Depending on the situation, NTT will determine the conditions and administration of the service provided, such as telephone numbers set aside for registration, etc.
The commencement of this service will be announced on TV and the radio.
Telephone numbers that can be registered:
The phone numbers with which this service can be used in stricken areas are NTT telephone numbers.
They are 9-10 digit-numbers including the area code.
The conditions for use are as follows:
-Message recording time is limited to 30 seconds.
-The messages will be stored for 48 hours after recording.
-From 1-10 messages can be stored by the use of a single telephone line.
You will be informed of the exact number at the time of the the service is offered.
Erasing messages:
Messages will be erased automatically after the period mentioned above.
Service charge:
Any telephone calls that are made for recording or playing back purposes between the place that the call is made from, and the disaster area will be charged for.
However, the service offered by the center, is free.
When the use of free public phones and temporary phones in the disaster area become available, these phones can be used to call the service for free.
